HVAC BTU Load Calculator

Reviewed August 2026

Estimate room heating or cooling capacity. Use Basic mode for a fast screening value or Advanced mode to include envelope heat transfer, ventilation, windows, solar gain, occupants and equipment.

Important: This is not a substitute for Manual J, EN 12831, CIBSE or another recognized load calculation. Use local design temperatures and verified construction data for equipment selection.

Choose the level of detail

Basic — area/volume rule of thumb with simple multipliers.Advanced — steady-state heat transfer plus ventilation and internal gains.

Inputs

The basic model starts from 125 W/m² at a 2.5 m ceiling, then applies the selected factors. It is intentionally approximate.
